Nepal: The Upper Mustang Trek

Trip Date April 9 – 21, 2017

No. of days 13 Days (Sunday – Friday)

Once a restricted area, Mustang is an independent kingdom within Nepal. The people are very much like Tibetan and practice a sophisticated culture and economy. Mustang is rich in Buddhist culture similar to Tibet and is an alternate way to experience the Tibetan culture and Landscape. Tourism to Upper Mustang is regulated and visitors need to obtain a special permit to enter the region.

Pilgrimage to Mount Kailash & Lake Manasarovar, is considered to be the most sacred by the Hindus, Buddhists, Jains & Bonpos. For Buddhists, Mt. Kailash is the “Abode of Arhats”. Bonpos consider, Shanrab their founder, descended from the heavens on this mountain. The Hindus consider Mt. Kailash as the “Center of the universe” & the abode of Lord Shiva & Parvati. Since ages many hermits & pilgrims have been undertaking journeys to this sacred place because of religious & mythological importance.

This trip, based out of Dharamshala, offers an opportunity to explore the tranquility of Buddhist culture and the old-world charm of British architecture. The trek takes us past villages of shepherds (“gaddis”), who migrate each spring with their flock from the foothills of the Kangra valley to the rich grazing areas of Lahaul and Spiti.

Kali Sarda Rafting Expedition

Sandwiched between India and Nepal’s western boundary, Kali Sarda is one of the important rivers of the Himalayas. An expedition down this river provides some classic Grade III/ IV rafting thrills. The river flows through remote, unspoilt regions and the pristine wilderness is definitely a highlight of the trip. The region is also known for some phenomenal bird life.
