The
Depth of Dragon Tour
DAY 1. ARRIVE PARO.
Upon arrival at Paro Airport, received by Snow Leopard
Adventures representatives, transfer to the Hotel, if time
permits visit festival, Paro. Dinner and overnight at the
hotel in Paro.
DAY 2. PARO Full
day at the festival, O/n Paro.
Day 3. Paro.
Overnight at hotel in Paro.
Day 4.
Full day excursion to Taktsang for acclimatization. Overnight
hotel in Paro.
Day 5. Trek starts:
Paro - Shana Goma ( 16 kms ) about 56 hours. Alt 9240
ft. Drive up the winding road till Drukgyal Dzong where the
road ends and the trek begins. This moderate trek follows
the river up through a narrowagricultural valley. Camp just
beyond the army camp.
Day 6. Shana- Yaksa
Zampa. (18 Kms) 5/6 hrs.Alt 12,170 ft.
Continue uphill through the river valley. The trail narrows
and closes in and winds up and down and camp is set in a stone
shelter with a fire pit inside.
Day 7. Yaksa Zampa
- Jangothang. ( 18 Kms ) about 56 hours. Chomolhari Base camp
Alt. 13750 ft.
Trek up along the Pa-chu (Paro river), pass a small army
post where the valley begins to widen again where one get
beautiful views of the high ridges and the snow-capped peaks
around. Camp beneath a ruined fortress at the base of Chomolhari.
Day 8. Jangothang
- Lingshi (19 kms) about 7/8 hrs. Alt 13,595 ft
Today you will be going over the first pass Nyelela (15,500
ft). Wide yak pastures on the way up and down the pass, possibly
still some people in their yak tents depending on the time
of the year you are there. Great views of Lingshi Dzong as
you come down into the Lingshi basin if the weather is clear.
Tserim Kang and its descending glaciers at the north end of
the valley. Camp is set in a stone shelter with a fire pit
inside.
Day 9. Lingshi -
Shodu ( 20 kms ) 7/8 hrs. Yalila pass 16,100 ft.
The trial ascends up to the Yalila pass (16,100ft) from
the pass Mount Chomolhari, Tserim Gang and Masagang can be
seen on a clear day. Camp is in an open area.
Day 10. Shodu - Barshong
13 kms about 5/6 hrs. Alt 11,870 ft.
Follow the Thim-Chu (Thimphu river) through the Rhododendrons
forest it narrows and closes in and the trial winds up and
down along the drainage, ascending up to the ruins of Barshong
Dzong. Camp just below the ruined fortress.
Day 11. Barshong
- Dolam Kencho 11 kms 4/5 hours Alt. 10,550 ft.
The trail descends down to meet Thim-Chu (Thimphu river)
through the forest of thicker rhododendrons and ascends up
to pasture land.
Day 12. Dolam Kencho
- Dodina 14 kms 5/6 hrs
Overnight camp.
Day 13. Dodina -
Thimphu - Paro
Morning drive to Thimphu. After lunch drive to Paro, O/N
in a hotel in Paro
Day 14. Departure. |
